Alyssa Gitter is a licensed and board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in Infectious Diseases. Alyssa's post-secondary education began with her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia and then she earned her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in 2007. Prior to becoming a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Alyssa cared for patients as a Registered Nurse for seven years in Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, and Pain Management in Charleston, SC. Alyssa graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2014 with both her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctorate of Nurse Practice degrees. After earning her graduate degrees, Alyssa practiced as a clinical provider in the Emergency Department caring for acutely ill-patients of all ages. Alyssa then joined a local Infectious Disease and Travel medicine private practice where she was a full-time clinical provider as well as the Director of Research. During her time there, Alyssa primarily practiced in the inpatient setting, lead an inpatient influenza drug trial, and also co-published "Emergency Department Utilization by HIV-Infected South Carolina Residents 1996-2005" in the HSOA Journal of AIDS Clinical Research and STDs. After several years in private practice, Alyssa joined the MUSC Infectious Disease team in 2021. Alyssa primarily works in the inpatient setting with a focus on telehealth.Alyssa's clinical interests include skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and prevention and treatment of hospital-acquired infections.
