Catherine Rubinstein is a native of Charleston where she has lived her entire life. She matriculated through the College of Charleston completing her nursing degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. She began her career at MUSC just prior to 1992 as a student and upon graduation from nursing school she began working as a bedside RN in the pediatric/adult cardiothoracic units. In 1997 she completed her master's degree at MUSC in Family Nurse Practitioner and joined Dr. Scott M. Bradley and the pediatric section of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Since that time, "Cathy" has worked closely with the surgery team, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, and the Children's Heart Center of South Carolina coordinating care for all congenital heart patients in South Carolina to promote and facilitate continuity of care.Cathy's clinical interests and specialty outside general overall management of pediatric heart surgery patients include pain management in children and reduction of surgical site infections, in addition to, education to medical staff and families. She assists with research and data collection and is a member of several professional organizations.Cathy volunteers and has overseen the "Little Heart Walk" associated with the American Heart Association since 1999. She has also gone into local elementary school to teach children about exercise and nutrition in relation to heart health.
